Quebec is a Canadian province that provided safety for many blacks escaping the brutality of slavery in the southern states of the US along the Underground Railroad. Led only by the North Star, people such as Harriet Tubman, made their way to safer havens throughout Canada. Today Montreal and Laval, two of Quebec’s largest cities, have large black populations that have contributed greatly to the success of Canadian society.
