Lift Every Voice and Sing

james-weldon-johnson Lift Every Voice and Sing was written by black poet and civil rights leader James Weldon Johnson. It was originally intended for use in a program given by a group of Jacksonville, Florida school children to celebrate Lincoln’s birthday. It is known today as the “Negro National Anthem”.
